Basic Lion’s Mane Recipe
How to Cook Lion's Mane Mushrooms
Preparation
- Slice the mushroom perpendicular to the spines into thin slices, or tear it into bite-sized pieces.
- Tearing the mushroom helps keep the spines intact, allowing them to become wonderfully crisp during cooking.
Instructions
- Heat a skillet over medium heat with a small amount of butter or oil.
- Add the Lion's Mane mushrooms and cook gently, stirring occasionally.
- Allow the mushrooms to slowly release their natural moisture. Continue cooking until most of the liquid has evaporated.
- Add a little more butter or oil and increase the heat slightly.
- Sauté until the mushroom is golden brown and the spines are crisp to your desired texture.
- For extra flavor, add sliced onions or garlic during the final few minutes of cooking.
Serving Suggestions
Lion's Mane has a mild, delicate flavor and a tender, meaty texture that works well in a variety of dishes. Try it:
- In stir-fries with seasonal vegetables
- Tossed with pasta in a cream sauce
- As a filling for tacos or enchiladas
- Folded into quiches or omelets
- Served over rice or grain bowls
- As a topping for grilled steak, chicken, or fish
Cooking Tip: Lion's Mane develops its best texture when cooked slowly at first to remove excess moisture, then finished over slightly higher heat to create beautifully browned, crispy edges.
