Basic Oyster Mushroom Recipe

How to Cook Oyster Mushrooms

Ingredients

  • Fresh oyster mushrooms
  • Butter or oil

Instructions

  1. Slice oyster mushrooms into ¼-inch thick strips.
  2. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the mushrooms to the dry pan or with just a very small amount of oil or butter.
  3. Cook uncovered, stirring often, to allow the mushrooms to release and evaporate their natural moisture.
  4. Once most of the moisture has cooked away, add butter or oil and continue sautéing until the mushrooms are golden brown and tender.
  5. For extra flavor, add sliced onions during the final few minutes of cooking and sauté until softened.

Cooking Tip: Oyster mushrooms cook down considerably and develop their best flavor after their excess moisture has evaporated and they begin to brown.
